Krajnak, a Milwaukee native, lost her left leg in a motorcycle accident in 1998 during the Harley Davidson
95th Anniversary Celebration. Krajnak needed major revision surgery in May of 2002. Since then she has been
forced to use crutches because her prosthesis must be re-fit--a process that could cost as much as $10,000.
"This past year has just been so difficult trying to manage school and my job on crutches," said
Krajnak, a student at Milwaukee's Alverno College and an intern at the Milwaukee Office for Persons with
Disabilities, "I feel so lucky and am very excited that I will be walking again soon." Krajnak plans to
enter law school in the fall of 2004 and pursue a career in disability advocacy, law and policy.
In addition to providing aid to Krajnak, Oak Grove Acres has pledged to donate five dollars from every
campsite reservation to the Florida-based Barr Foundation, an organization designed to aid amputees in
obtaining prosthetic limbs and rehabilitation services.
Founded by Jonas Zahn, also an amputee as a result of a motorcycle accident, Oak Grove Acres will be
open during August 2003 for the Harley Davidson 100th Anniversary. With 60 acres of camping space, the
campground is located between Madison and Milwaukee. The camping fee is $125 per adult for the week,
and discounts are available for group reservations and members of motorcycle clubs such as the Harley
Owners Group (HOG).
"As an amputee, I regard walking as a privilege and a gift," said Jonas Zahn, founder of Oak
Grove Acres. "I hope we raise enough funds through our campground to share this gift with a dozen or more
amputees."
